I'M OBSESSED WITH THE MESS THAT'S AMERICA
TLDR: IMPERIALISM, SEXISM, ABUSE OF POWER
being a cia man from the 1960s, jim comes with some major content warnings. he's an imperialist and is used to doing whatever he wants regardless of whether or not it's legal, and in numerous instances in the show he goes out on his own and does things like bug private residences. he grossly abuses his power, and he's sexist, which presents in taking on a very belittling tone when speaking to female equals in the intelligence services - such as addressing a woman his age condescendingly as "young lady" - and that may come up in interactions with female characters, especially those younger than him.

TLDR: INTERNALIZED RACISM, INTERNALIZED ANTI-LATINO SENTIMENT, INCLUSION OF A FEW IMPORTANT HISTORICAL DETAILS RE: RACIAL/ETHNIC IDENTITY
while he is a fictionalization with some large changes from the real guy, i am not comfortable with the show's erasure of the fact that his inspiration and namesake was a) latino and b) biracial (brown mestiza mother, white father) especially because none of the white anglo characters get the same treatment. though jja was ostensibly white passing and possibly perceived as having the same degree of whiteness as the actor that was used, i choose to incorporate the historical details of familial background/ethnic identity into my portrayal of him. that said, he also comes with warnings for internalized discrimination - jim doesn't correct people when they mispronounce his middle name as "jesus" and would rather they just not use it, and generally tries to be perceived as white and anglo. i maintain the adjacent historical detail that he lied outright about his middle name and ethnicity despite penalty of perjury when he entered the office of strategic services in WWII.
